Bournemouth - second to none for group getaways
26th July 2017
Bournemouth has entered yet another year as the perfect group destination – with a host of attractions springing up in the South’s premier coastal resort and a warm welcome awaiting groups.
Set along the picturesque South Coast, Bournemouth offers the perfect mix of breath-taking vistas and natural beauty with high energy activities and family attractions, as well as a packed programme of festivals and events – giving plenty of choice for group getaways.
One of the latest towns to receive the prestigious ‘Coach Friendly’ status from the Confederation of Passenger Transport UK (CPT) recognising the resort’s commitment to making sure that coach parties receive a warm welcome described by the panel as “second to none”. Bournemouth offers ample coach parking, as well as central drop-off and pick-up points.
Combined with its temperate micro-climate, Bournemouth’s excellent transport links and wide variety of accommodation make it the perfect base for exploring Dorset’s history, heritage and picture-perfect scenery.
Surrounded by rolling countryside, Bournemouth is nestled on the Dorset coastline with seven miles of sandy beaches, panoramic views along the clifftops and historic grade-II listed gardens.
The resort’s natural surroundings mean that groups can take invigorating walks along the coast or stroll through the gardens, cycle out into the rolling countryside or pedal along the coastline. Other leisurely pursuits include brand new mini golf on Boscombe Pier and an abundance of bowling greens and golf courses, while adrenaline junkies can opt for a more extreme experience with a variety of watersports and even the world’s first and only pier-to-shore zip wire.
For art and culture lovers, the cliff-top Russell-Cotes Arts Gallery & Museum is a treasure trove of paintings, artefacts and exhibitions including Meeting Modernism – an eclectic collection of contemporary art, showing from 29 October 2016 – 24 April 2017. Now a well-established world-class venue, the Bournemouth International Centre (BIC) hosts pop concerts, conferences and exhibitions throughout the year, while the Pavilion Theatre hosts West End shows, dance performances and pantomimes.
As well as a vast array of shops, restaurants, bars and a buzzing nightlife, Bournemouth is now known worldwide for its programme of free festivals and events all year round.
2017 marks the 10th year of the award-winning Bournemouth Air Festival – festival goers can look forward to four memorable days of action and entertainment on land, at sea and in the air. To top off the season, Bournemouth Arts by the Sea Festival takes place in October, showcasing cultural delights from the world of music, film, dance, arts and performance.
