Bournemouth’s Biggest Ever Public Street Art Project
17th August 2017
Ambassadeur Art Gallery teamed up with Bournemouth Tourism to create Bournemouth’s biggest ever public street art project on Pier Approach in the spidery-shape of one of our favourite superheroes.
The project took several months in planning and began on Monday this week with Ambassadeur Art’s resident artists, Iain Alexander and Dairo Vargas working with local street artist, Miroslav Lucan, chalking out the design in the morning. Students from the Arts University Bournemouth joined the artists all day on Tuesday to help with the painting.
This new piece of street for Bournemouth’s busiest tourist spot has been designed with families in mind and depicts a giant Spiderman holding an ice cream. Michael Corica, joint owner of Ambassadeur Art with his brother Matthew, commented: “Since we opened the gallery a few months ago we’ve all really loved the idea of doing something fun, artistic and different in a prominent public space and you can’t get more prominent than Pier Approach! The project has been a collaboration of talent between the resident artists at the gallery such as Iain Alexander and Dairo Vargas alongside some brilliant local artists. Mirek has been a great asset having already created so many of Bournemouth’s fantastic street art works. It really has been a pleasure bringing so many creative minds together and we cannot wait to see the finished piece next week.”
Spiderman was finished yesterday morning and was unveiled to the public by the Mayor and Mayoress of Bournemouth who shook hands with Spiderman as he arrived on the zip wire to finish the painting with a final flourish of the paintbrush. Jon Weaver, Head of Marketing and Events for Bournemouth Tourism commented: “For Bournemouth, the whole project has been a huge success from start to finish. It’s been great for us to work with the Arts University and Ambassadeur Art Gallery on such a fun installation. There was a holiday atmosphere at this morning’s launch, with children and adults coming down to Pier Approach in their superhero costumes and we hope that locals and tourists alike will continue to enjoy this brilliant piece of street art in the last weeks of the summer season."
