When autumn leaves start to fall and warm sun-kissed colours descend, Bournemouth is a wonderful place to enjoy a short break and embrace the change of the season. Wrap up with an extra layer and enjoy long walks as the reds and golds of falling leaves flutter down while soaking up the last of the sun. Cosy up and enjoy quintessential autumn activities, from pumpkin picking to leafy autumn drives, not to mention the expansive programme of events and of course getting ready for Halloween. With so much to do this time of the year, it’s not hard to see how truly magical Bournemouth is in autumn.

A wonderful walk in the crunchy autumn leaves is also a must! From the centrally located Lower Gardens in Bournemouth or in Poole Park, Dorset has so much beautiful colour to offer at this time of the year.
If you fancy a longer walk, just outside of Bournemouth you will find many stunning rural areas to enjoy the great outdoors. Less than an hour either side of Bournemouth you can discover the stunning Purbecks and the Jurassic Coast or in the opposite direction just the other side of Christchurch, The New Forest really comes alive this time of year.

Just away from the beaches, the many chines offer great sheltered walks with beautiful colours and wildlife, it won’t be hard to spot some cute squirrels darting in and out of the trees as you wander through these historic valleys. Branksome Dene Chine opens wide into the beachfront dotted by the iconic beach huts, Alum Chine contains a nice walk with suspension bridge and tropical gardens, and Boscombe Chine has a pleasant windy route from sea to town which also features a small café, mini golf, and beautiful floral scenery.
There is plenty to do in Bournemouth with children when autumn comes around.
Did we mention we've got great sand? Swimming is only for the very hardy in autumn, but it is still a great time to get out those buckets and spades and hit the beach. Sandcastles and collecting rocks and shells soon builds up an appetite, so bring a picnic or head to one of the many eateries such as Prom Cafe.
You'll also find one of many great play parks in the gardens, and adventure golf at Smugglers Cove near the Pier.
There's also plenty to do indoors and rain does not need to stop play! Head to BH2 Leisure Complex for many different activities for al the family, including adventure golf, a multi screen cinema, and a variety of fabulous eateries.
