New destination awards for Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole – contractor sought
8th January 2019
Building on the success of the Bournemouth & Poole Tourism Awards (BAPTAs), new destination awards for Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole are being planned for 2020 and a contractor is being sought to deliver them on behalf of the new Destination Management Board.
Following the reorganisation of local councils and the creation of a new Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council in April 2019, a new destination management board will also be created. The board will represent tourism businesses across the conurbation, replacing the Bournemouth & Poole Tourism Management Board.
The current management board is looking to appoint a contractor to organise and deliver the new, combined destination awards.
Jon Weaver, Head of Resort Marketing & Events, said: “Tourism awards have been running since 2004 in Bournemouth and since 2003 in Poole. They came together to represent the conurbation in 2016 under the combined title, the BAPTAs. The new, destination-wide awards will complement the area’s umbrella identity as the coast with the most and will celebrate a new chapter for Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole.”
The awards will be launched in June 2019 and celebrated at an awards ceremony in March 2020.
The awards will recognise any business, group or individual – based locally, regionally or nationally – that can demonstrate support for the local economy and a contribution towards the development of the destination.
Andy Woodland, Chairman of the Bournemouth & Poole Tourism Partnership, said: “The new awards will reflect perfectly the conurbation’s aspirations. The vitality and diversity offered by the area is comparable to a city by the sea. Not only will the awards broaden the recognition of the scope and scale of businesses in the area, they will also highlight the impact and reputation for quality that this destination offers as a place to visit, work and live.”
