What’s new and what’s on this Summer in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole

Beach life is back in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole this summer as the award-winning resorts prepare for a bumper season.
Visitors will be spoilt for choice with the arrival of six alfresco beach-based restaurants, a fitness gym and some spectacular public art, giving visitors that holiday feeling.
As the resort gears up for the Bank Holiday weekend, visitors are already enjoying the opportunity to have a Mediterranean feast with a sea view at the brand-new Beach Hut Bar and Grill, along the promenade west of Bournemouth seafront. A short stroll further up and visitors will find W Beach restaurant is back with a bigger menu and an Ibiza-style vibe.
On the east-side of Bournemouth Pier, Aruba’s Sunset Beach Club returns with a family-friendly, European-inspired beach club vibe and further along the east cliff, El Murino’s beach restaurant will be serving delicious pizzas and drinks.
Two more restaurants are also planned along the stretch of award-winning beaches with their iconic Neapolitan pastel beach huts.
New pieces of art celebrating Bournemouth’s famous coastline will also greet seafront visitors this summer.
BCP Council have commissioned two local artists to revamp the environment around Bournemouth Pier Approach Flyover and Boscombe Land Train Garage on Undercliff Drive.
Visitors who want to look after their physical wellbeing can try Who Dares Gyms, who will now be offering open air classes and training sessions at East Cliff.
The new beach restaurants, art, wellness and innovation projects represents a step change for the coastal resort, which boasts more blue flags than any other area in the UK and feels like a world-class holiday destination closer to home, with its boutique surf bars, blue seas for sunbathing and watersports.
With Covid in decline, the changes along the seafront aim to support the bounce back of the local tourism, hospitality and cultural economy in the wake of the pandemic.
Anthony Rogers, Head of Seafront at BCP Council, said: “With the Bank Holiday approaching and the Summer enticingly near, we have some exciting new projects planned along our beautiful seafront for everyone to enjoy - there’s fun for all.
“If you haven’t been down to our seafront before, or haven’t visited for a while, come and check it out – you’ll be amazed at some of the changes. All are welcome to the coast with the most!
Vintage funfair rides are planned to grace the pier this year, along with bungee trampolines, which are already in full swing.
Further east at Southbourne, a high-end temporary restaurant will open on the beach and will run for two summers before the permanent structure is aimed to be up and running by 2024, complete with sixteen new each Beach Lodges.
At Boscombe Pier the Prom Diner is also extending its brand new terrace service to the sand with its Beach Diner.
Meanwhile artists and performers resort are ready to entertain and inspire with a series of exciting array of events, festivals and activities this year as part of Festival Coast Live! 2022.
There will be live music, entertainment, and illuminations across the three towns, coastal villages, seafront area and beyond from spring right through to this winter, with events including Arts By the Sea and Bournemouth Air Festival.
Amid all the exciting projects and events, the region’s accommodation providers are reporting high levels of occupancy for the bank holiday weekend and hopes are high for the region to attract staycation visitors in the Summer months.
With 15 miles of beaches stretching from east of Christchurch all the way to Poole, there is sure to be a place to relax by the sea this bank holiday that’s perfect for everyone.
On top of the Instagram worthy beach backdrops, visitors to Bournemouth can also enjoy putting by the Sea at Smuggler’s Cove Adventure Golf Course or they can take a 360 trip on the Big Wheel with views across the bay and inland.
In Poole there is lots to offer along the Quay, harbour and Poole Museum, while Christchurch offers sailing, boating, a picturesque harbour, high end boutique hotels and a Saxon Priory.
