Bournemouth announces a fun-filled summer for 2017

Residents and visitors to Bournemouth can look forward to a packed summer programme as a huge variety of festivals and events are announced in the coming months, reinforcing the resorts reputation as an ‘eventful’ destination.
Kicking off on 11 June with Race for Life, the calendar will once again see several thousand runner goers flock to Bournemouth’s spectacular coastline.
Jazz by the Sea Festival will take place from 11 - 17 June at locations across Poole and Bournemouth. There will be live jazz performances in shopping arcades and retail outlets as well as a variety of themed jazz events in local hotels, pubs, clubs, bars and restaurants.
If you have a penchant for good food, there’s Bournemouth Food & Drink Festival from 16 – 25 June. Head down to the town centre to enjoy fantastic flavours, amazing cooking skills and food, food, food!
If you enjoy watching or taking part in sport and fitness events, there’s British Beach Rugby on 17 June. This tournament will welcome teams of men and women worldwide to do play on the golden sands. This 5s tournament differs from traditional rugby as when the ball carrier has contact with or is tackled by an opponent, they must pass or release the ball within two seconds.
Southbourne Shake and Stir returns with evening events on 29 & 30 June, with the festival in full swing on 1 & 2 July. Shake & Stir has become renowned locally and across the South, for its incredible vintage-themed live entertainment and music along with local food and drink, trade stalls and classic cars.
The popular Bourne Free (Bournemouth’s Pride Festival) takes place in Bournemouth from 30 June - 2 July. Prepare for a weekend of fun and frolics, good music, great entertainment and of course the famous parade. This year’s theme is superheros so be sure to get your best superman/woman costume ready.
Beach Netball returns to Boscombe Beach on 1 July and the Bournemouth Pier to Pier Swim is on 16 July where you can brave the English Channel in an incredible 1.4 mile open water challenge.
Wednesday 2 August marks the start of the Candlelight Procession. Be part of one of Bournemouth’s oldest and most enduring traditions and take the candlelit walk in the dusk from the Lower Gardens to Pier Approach.
From 4 – 12 August OnStage live music acts will be playing at Pier Approach offering a fabulous programme of live music at Bournemouth seafront. On 5 August, Olly Murs will be performing in Kings Park as part of his summer tour of major outdoor venues. This one night only performance will be the first of its kind in Kings Park and will hold a total capacity of 10,000.
From 11 – 13 August Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra will be making their anticipated return to Meyrick Park with Proms in the Park.
For those who like outdoor entertainment and Bournemouth’s rich cultural offer, the Luna Cinema will be at the Waterfront, Pier Approach on 18, 19 & 20 August where you can watch classic films under the stars.
Every Friday during August you can watch the spectacular Friday Fireworks down at Bournemouth Seafront, the perfect way to kick off your weekend during peak summer season.
The highlight of the calendar year is Bournemouth Air Festival, 31 August to 3 September. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the award winning and internationally renowned aviation event and festival goers can look forward to four memorable days of action and entertainment on land, at sea and in the air.
