Celebrations will be taking place across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee this June.
In an extended weekend of celebrations 2-5 June the area will play host to over 300 street parties. If you are visiting the area and looking to join in with some festivities marking the Queens 70-year reign, there is plenty going on.
Beacon Lightings
On Thursday evening 2 June each of the three towns will take part in the national beacon lighting ceremony, attended by their mayors, all lightings are at 9.45pm.
In Bournemouth the beacon lighting event will be taking place on the East Overcliff near to the John Egging memorial, followed by fireworks in the bay.
Christchurch will be lighting their beacon at Mudeford Quay, same time, but the celebrations will commence earlier at 5pm with entertainment and food & drink stalls.
Poole’s beacon lighting will be at Sandbanks followed by fireworks in the bay.
Join in the fun
There will also be large screen Jubilee entertainment. In the Lower Gardens Bournemouth watch national events being broadcast by the BBC such as the live concert, ‘Platinum Party at the Palace’ and films related to the Queen’s 70-year reign. In Poole a big screen in Falkland Square will be showing Jubilee events throughout the weekend. On Saturday in Poole there will also be a live music stage and on Sunday there will be a Jubilee Street Singalong in various locations all provided by Poole BID. The BID is also inviting shops to dress their windows in celebration from 28 May – 5 June. Vote for your favourite and both you and the business could receive a prize!
Southbourne are celebrating on the green on 4 June and have a Jubilee Party at Fisherman’s Walk on 5 June, both featuring music and entertainment, fun & games, competitions, and a range of refreshments.
Christchurch BID are hosting a free Children’s Jubilee Tea Party & Cupcake Competition on 4 June. Enjoy circus workshops, stilt walking and magic shows, plus music and dancing. All activities are aimed at children up to 12.
Celebrate on 2 June in the beautiful Walled Garden at Upton Country Park, Poole’s Jubilee Picnic. Bring your own picnic or purchase one from the Tea Rooms and enjoy live music.
Even more for May half term!
With the Jubilee celebrations falling into the end of the May half term week, there’s also Christchurch Food Festival and Poole Seafood Festival taking place. From 2-5 June, enjoy local produce at Christchurch Food Festival, with delicious street food, bars, craft drinks, free entertainment and cooking demos. If you love seafood, pop to Poole Quay 3-5 June to find a champagne and oyster bar, top chef demonstrations, live music all weekend and of course the best in local fresh seafood.
Continuing the foodie theme, celebrate in style at the Russell-Cotes Art Gallery & Museum, with afternoon tea on the cafe terrace, overlooking the garden and sea. Jubilee Afternoon Tea with Pimms is being served 2-5 June (Pre-booking essential).
