Our Stay in the Beach Lodges - A Magical Christmas Break

My partner and I adore spending Christmas at home in the city, with the bustling surroundings always providing activities to keep ourselves and our families entertained. However, after a visit to Bournemouth last Christmas we now have a new tradition that our December would be incomplete without and that is a visit to Bournemouth’s magnificent seaside Beach Lodges.

It doesn’t matter where you are travelling from, a quiet period on the UK’s ‘Coast with the Most’ is one that is simply unmissable. However, the Beach Lodges add an extra element of intimacy and seclusion that made our Christmas getaway even more memorable.

You can choose to begin your stay on either a Monday or a Friday and stay for a minimum of three or a maximum of eleven days. There are twenty-four lodges to book, with some disability access available and around half able to cater for visitors who wish to bring their canine companions along for the holiday break. They offer breath-taking coastline scenery across miles of the best beaches in the UK and we adored waking up with a morning cuppa to bask in the low Winter sun as the temperature slowly rose from Baltic to bearable accentuating the perception that we had travelled somewhere far flung and exotic.

The surprisingly spacious and accommodating lodges provided the ideal backdrop for our Christmas break, and with the soothing sound of the lapping ocean waves we had our own live edition of ‘Sounds to Fall Asleep To’ right outside the front door. There is simply no more magical experience than watching the ocean waves crash into the shore from the warmth and protection of your own Beach Lodge.

With so much to do in the surrounding Bournemouth and Christchurch area, despite all the home comforts that the Beach Lodges offered including kitchen, bathroom, shower, smart storage, slimline modular furniture, heating, Wi-Fi and TV, my partner and I found ourselves waking early and returning late exhausted but satisfied to our lodge late into the night hours.

The halcyon event in the town centre over the Christmas period is the Christmas Tree Wonderland, headlined by the returning festive trail. My attempt at the SKATE ice-rink was notable solely as a world record attempt for ‘Most Time Spent on the Floor of an Ice Rink in an Hour’. We cannot wait to return this holiday season as the trail has been expanded and will feature an enchanting illuminated water fall at Smuggler’s Cove Adventure Golf. The trail is a fantastic way to discover the award-winning lower garden area, and the eclectic variety of food and drink establishments in the surrounding area that we simply cannot wait to come back and indulge in again.

For families with slightly younger children this year’s Christmas pantomime is the much-loved classic ‘Aladdin’, featuring star turns from EastEnders’ Richard Blackwood and The X-Factor’s Amelia Lily.  The show takes places at the Pavilion theatre in the town centre, and we will certainly find ourselves spending an afternoon sitting down enjoying the performance, and the evening perusing the Alpine Market stalls. We purchased most of our Christmas presents last year for family and friends from the Alpine market, and everyone was delighted with the unique and personalised gifts we returned with.

This is only the cream at the very top of the Christmas treat that is the south coast at Christmas.
