If you’re itching to try something new this year – then put those thigh muscles to good use and jump on the water! Bournemouth has the perfect beach backdrop for trying your hand at a new watersport. Or – if you just want to ‘lap’ up the watersports lifestyle without getting wet (yes – there’s plenty of us out there!) then you can, with some pretty funky eateries on the beachfront.
Watersports and beach life are what makes Bournemouth tick – it doesn’t have to be the height of summer either – in fact, the water is at its warmest (18 degrees) in October!
Bournemouth and its neighbour Poole offer the UK’s widest range of water sports activities from, surfing, sailing, and kayaking, through to jet-skiing and powerboating, to more leisurely lunch and dinner cruises.
Here’s three of the most popular watersports for you to try:
1. Surfing
From 8 years olds to grandparents – lessons in surfing are available to everyone and all equipment is provided at the two surf schools at Boscombe beach near to Bournemouth Beach Lodges. Its great fun – especially when you ride your first wave!
2. Kayaking
Boscombe Beach offers kayaking for all ages from 7 years upwards and you’ll be trained by the experts. It’s a great family activity that you can all do together and a perfect way of seeing the beautiful coastline.
3. Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP)
If the Californians can do it – Bournemouth can do it too! Stand Up Paddleboarding is the ‘in’ thing to try when you’re hanging out at the beach. Boscombe Beach has two outlets that offer this and you’ll learn the proper techniques from the experts.
If you just fancy watching the watersports -you can walk onto the Pier and have a bird’s eye view.
