CHRISTCHURCH CARNIVAL -
CHRISTCHURCH QUAY & HIGH STREET - 12-13 AUGUST, 2023
Queen Tribute band to headline Christchurch Carnival on the Quomps, 12-13th August
Christchurch Carnival are thrilled to announce that Platinum Queen, a brilliant Queen tribute show, will be headlining on Saturday evening prior to our firework finale. Christchurch Carnival has announced the full list of showcasing artists invited to perform at this year's annual event. The stage is set for a magical weekend of music discovery and camaraderie that can only be found in a setting like Christchurch. So much local talent is involved in creating a brilliant weekend of free family fun and entertainment, all in order to raise money for local charities.
During the day we will have a huge range of musical talent for everyone to enjoy; local band OneWord have been supporting Christchurch Carnival since they were teenagers, whereas for RumSoaked this will be their debut with us. There will be photo opportunities with Stormtroopers from UK Garrison and an opportunity to come and meet every parent's favourite blue Aussie Character. On Sunday, Staffie & Stray Rescue from Wimborne will be hosting the annual dog show, with a special carnival themed, dog friendly yoga session from Park Yoga at 9:30am.
For Cllr Viv Charrett this is quite a special year, as Christchurch Carnival Chair she has been overseeing the preparations all year, but she will take on a brand new role on Sunday in the lead car for the Parade in all her Mayoral regalia.
We still have slots available for entrants in Sunday's Carnival Parade, which leaves Two Riversmeet Leisure Centre at 1pm and travels down to the Quay via the High Street. This is a perfect opportunity for team building and a brilliant way to get more publicity for your business, group or club, which is why the likes of Christchurch Rugby Club join us each year.
The full list of artists invited to perform include: Platinum Queen, RumSoaked, Tread Softly, OneWord, Galaxy Thief, O'Leary Academy of Irish Dancing, Wessex Majorettes, Just The Two of Us, Kaleidoscope Dancers, Jan's Gems, Staffie & Stray Rescue Dog Show, Prof. Willson Punch & Judy.
ABOUT CHRISTCHURCH CARNIVAL
Christchurch Carnival has become a major fixture in the local calendar, it is now over 100 years old, making it the oldest running event in Christchurch. Entirely run by a small committee of volunteers, we aim every year to put on a fantastic weekend of FREE fun for all the family, raising as much money as we can for local charities and good causes.
This year all our charitable proceeds will be split between two local charities; Christchurch Food Bank, where the fantastic volunteers put in so much hard work to provide support and additional help that is needed by our community. And Somerford ARC, a wide reaching community centre who aim to improve the economic, social and environmental well-being of people in the Grange Ward area.
None of this would happen without our volunteers, marshalls, sponsors and local business support. This year's sponsors are Cookes Furniture, Aster Group, Frettens Solicitors and Veolia Environmental Services. And we would like to thank local businesses; The Captains Club, Christchurch Harbour Hotel and Kimmeridge Boutique for their generosity in supporting and donating great prizes for our charity raffle.
