Christchurch hospitality is well known on the South Coast for its great variety and foodie culture. The annual Food Festival is only the tip of the iceberg as far as Christchurch food goes. With luxury establishments offering exquisite seafood dishes and fine dining as well as independent set-ups offering artisanal experiences that you really won’t find anywhere else. Whatever your style or taste you can find it in Christchurch.
The world of Gin has always got Christchurch pinpointed with the likes of Conker, Ginjams, Pothecary, Lilliput and BH1 all made locally. The Christchurch Confectioner which sells artisanal treats stocks all of these as well as many more. Their frequent gin tasting evenings are a popular experience where you can delve deep into the world of Gin with passionate local connoisseurs.
Christchurch has also seen increasing popularity in craft ales in recent years. Local brewery Drop the Anchor has recently outgrown its humble roots in the centre of Christchurch and moved to a larger complex, but its popular ales are sold at their bars; The Snug on Church Street the The Tuckton Tap Room on Tuckton Highstreet. Across the Christchurch Roundabout you will find the cosy but always busy Saxon Bar, a friendly local hangout selling real ales, craft beers and artisanal drinks and on the highstreet The Crafty Tap offers tasty beers, ciders and fine wines.
Cocktail nights are a speciality of The Kings Arms, but with a subtle twist. Their experience puts you and your friends behind the bar as you learn how to make your favourite tipple. Perfect for a fun night out or special do. All the pubs and bars close by offer a slightly different selection and experience so it’s worth meandering around town to see what unique drinks you can stumble upon.
If you’re after a stunning view to match with your meal, you’ll have a bit of a selection dilemma on your hands. The award-winning Jetty restaurant based out of Christchurch Harbour Hotel offers stunning vistas of Mudeford Quay. With the water so close you can practically dip your toes in, it’s no wonder celebrity chef Alex Aitkin chose this idyllic spot to set up shop.
