Our stunning coastline offers 15 miles of beautiful beaches, acres of parks, gardens and nature reserves and plenty of fantastic leisure facilities, entertainment venues, attractions and activities. Our location is perfect, the county of Dorset allows lots of opportunities for exploration and fun. You can easily explore Dorset’s stunning Jurassic Coastline, rolling hills, forests and heathlands as well as pretty rural villages and historic towns.
East of Christchurch is the enchanting New Forest where you can discover and explore the forest’s ancient woodland, open moors, heathland and not forgetting the famous New Forest ponies, alongside cattle, donkeys, and free roaming deer.
In between two rivers just 6 miles from Bournemouth sits the idyllic harbourside town of Christchurch. There is always plenty of activities and things to do both on and off the water. Take a walk along the many coastal paths enjoying the stunning views, relax and savour the peace and quiet that our nature reserves and forests offer, or take to the water and enjoying a spot of sailing or paddle- boarding….the choices are endless.
Christchurch Quay which is a short stroll from the Priory gardens is home to Place Mill dating from 1100AD and a where you can enjoy a leisurely stroll around the quay or hire boat for a leisurely cruise. On the south side of the river you will find Tuckton Tea Gardens and paths which lead you to Christchurch Wick, a nature reserve with links to Hengistbury Head.
Discover the towns history and heritage, from the beautiful Priory and castle ruins which date back to the 11th Century to the towns pretty cobbled streets with ancient buildings and historic inns .
The bustling high street offers a great choice of independent shops, high street stores, boutiques and an open-air market every Monday.
With the area offering an abundance of seafood, home grown produce and exciting eateries, Christchurch and the surrounding area offer a choice of great dining out options from independent restaurants, cafes and inns to award winning chefs at local hotels.
Heading three miles eastwards along the coast on the border of the New Forest is the town of Highcliffe, home to Highcliffe Castle, a stunning Georgian mansion. Highcliffe has a high street, with local facilities and amenities as well as independent stores, cafés and restaurants.
The coastline, with its stunning clifftop views, offers plenty of walking opportunities and the chance to enjoy a quiet afternoon or evening on the beach, so don’t forget to pack your swimming gear and enjoy a dip in the sea for the health and wellbeing benefits that outdoor swimming brings.
We have some excellent transport links along our coastline, including great sustainable public transport options. We have an international airport and ferry port and easy road links to motorways linking you to the rest of the country. All these options offering you the opportunity to explore the surrounding area or attend that important business meeting. Our fantastic rail links to Winchester and London for example, make Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole the perfect location to live and work from. South Western Railway offer a fast train service to London Waterloo which only takes around 2 hours from Bournemouth. From Poole there is also ferry services that can link you with the Channel Islands and France.
