Situated a short walk from the main town centre, this is a mainly shingle and sand beach which is the perfect environment for surfing, bodyboarding and sunbathing in the warmer summer months. Accessible via a variety of paved, and gravel paths, there is a car park atop the cliff with the Cliffhanger restaurant offering both a variety of dine-in and takeaway options.
Avon beach is a designated bathing beach and is hugely popular throughout the late spring and warmer summer seasons. It is also one of the most accessible local beaches with a car park at beach level, making it fully accessible for those with disabilities and easier to access for families with small children. The Beach Hut Café is a friendly, welcoming facility with a fantastic array of freshly prepared food. Additionally, beach huts are available for hire, with a designated watersports segment in front of the car park. An additional watersports area is situated to the eastern end of Friars Cliff in front of the concrete wave wall.
Gundimore offers virtually uninterrupted views of the Isle of Wight and the nearby Mudeford Sandbank. Level access from Mudeford Quay and Avon Beach makes it relatively accessible, with several restaurant and dining options a short walk from the beach. A designated watersports area makes this an ideal location for bodyboarding.
A popular beach for watersports, the sandbank is also open to dogs all year round making it one of the most pet friendly locations. Five public toilet blocks, one with hot showers make it ideal for families, with the Mudeford Quay car park a short walk from the ferry service which facilitates the sandbank. Access is also provided via a path from Hengistbury Head’s car park.
This south facing beach is a great place to get away from the crowds and enjoy its natural, unspoilt beauty, whether that’s in the sun or on a crisp winter walk, you are sure to feel refreshed. Whilst you’re there, why not head up to the Hengistbury head nature reserve to take in stunning views of Mudeford and the look at the array of wildlife that call Hengistbury head its home.
