About Us
Local artists, Sarah Humby and Jayne Soakell, present new work based on observational sketches and field notes collected on and around Hengistbury Head and Christchurch Harbour over the course of 2021-2022.
A broad collection of finished pieces, working drawings, sketchbooks and written notes creates a sense of connection to place. The artists aim to showcase the process of creating work from it's origins on location and demystify the process of art making in response to landscape and environment.
Hengistbury Head is a dynamic and ever changing landscape of light and weather; a haven for wildlife and humans alike from pre history right up to the present day. From the rugged, brutal stratified cliffs along the south of the Head to the shelter and calm of the inner harbours and marshlands to the golden sands of Mudeford Spit the area is a versatile and unique place for an artist in the wild.
"It's all about light, colour, weather and movement…We're looking forward to sharing our experiences from a year on Hengistbury Head. We're excited to present the artistic culmination of a year's drawing trips on and around the Head.'
