Hengistbury Head is a relatively unspoilt beach, consistently featuring in the annual TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice® awards for Beaches. It has a south-facing pebble beach, with imposing clay and ironstone cliffs, and soft, sandy beaches at Mudeford spit, which is lined with colourful Mudeford beach huts.
Take a walk over the Head down to Mudeford Spit where you will find Britain’s most luxurious and expensive beach huts! Located at the end of the Spit, you will find a small café called The Beach House where you can sit back, relax and refuel.
St Catherine's Hill is a 35 hectare area of heathland and coniferous forest. It is located to the north of Christchurch and is bordered by Town Common Nature Reserve and the Wessex Way (A338). The Hill is home to a large number of important wildlife species including the Dartford Warbler and the sand lizard and is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), RAMSAR, Special Area of Conservation (cSAC) and Special Protection Area (SPA).
From the top of the hill, expect some lovely views out over the town and across to the cliffs of the Isle of Wight and Christchurch Priory.
Sandpit Marsh
Visit Stanpit Marsh, park in the car park, and head over the park to the gate in the corner and it will take you out onto the Marsh for a lovely circular walk. If you come at the right time of year, you can see the newly born foals. The walk also has a lovely view out over towards Mudeford Spit beach huts. A perfect place to get a photo!
