Beat the lockdown blues with these top tips on things to do this November. Please note all suggestions are in line with the government guidelines. Only go out for exercise and recreation outdoors, with your household or on your own with one person from another household. Despite the restrictions there are always loads of fun ways to enjoy our beautiful destination safely. Stay home, protect the NHS and save lives.
Get outdoors and enjoy the fresh air
At a beautiful natural location
This one might sound obvious, but we have so many stunning locations on our doorstep, what better time to enjoy them than now? Embrace the seasonal alchemy of our coastlines into vast and rugged vistas and enjoy beautiful walking locations cast in a wintery spell. With less crowds and quieter times, our outdoor spaces can be magical places to experience the seasonal changes. Head to our explore pages to discover more.
At one of our breath-taking garden attractions
Some of our local attractions are able to keep their outdoor spaces open to enjoy with safe social distancing. Upton Country Park, Compton Acres and Highcliffe Castle will all keep their magnificent gardens open to the public with café’s available for takeaway food and drink. We can’t wait to wrap up warm, grab a coffee and explore their breath-taking settings this winter. Please contact the individual attractions for their guidelines.
At an outdoors art gallery
With no queues and no pre booking required Bournemouth’s Upside Gallery is the perfect place to get some fresh air and see some inspired street art. Located in Bournemouth upper gardens, these 12 impressive concrete totems painted by local artists, can be viewed at all times of the year. You can also head out on the Selfie Wall Trail, to search for the 11 spectacular, vibrant and eye-catching murals that are dotted along the seafront from Sandbanks to Southbourne. Being entirely outdoors these locations are the perfect place to get your art fix this month!
Whether you’re in Bournemouth, Christchurch or Poole we are lucky to have lots of outdoor locations to choose from. Head to our Instagram channels for some breath-taking inspiration and less us know where you spend your lockdown strolls by tagging us in your posts! @Bournemouth_Official @LovePooleUK @LoveXChurch
Keep fit!
By hopping on a Beryl Bike
You must have seen the green bikes parked around the destination, but did you know that Beryl bikes are available in Christchurch now too? When your daily walk is not quite cutting it, why not step it up a gear and try a Beryl? With the three towns well connected and the promenade open for cycling you can comfortably roam the destination from Sandbanks to Hengistbury Head! Simply download the app and find a location, the likelihood is there’s one close by!
At home
A great way to use the extra time at home is to stay in shape! Many local leisure centres and gyms will look to offer classes online, and some are even free! Meaning even if it’s chucking it down outdoors, you can still get your sweat on at home! Be sure to check your local gym to see what they are offering and head to our ‘at home’ page for some more great tips on how to keep fit!
Turn your home into a cosy wonderland
Besides keeping fit and healthy there are loads of great ways you can enjoy spending extra time indoors. This time of the year we’re used to cosying up and enjoying the creature comforts of our homes. Why not embrace the warmth and turn your place into a cosy crib perfect to keep you entertained during lockdown.
By embracing the spirit of Hygge!
This Danish tradition is exactly what we need at the moment! Pronounced ‘Hyoo-guh’ the term celebrates the cosiness and comfort of spending time indoors! Every winter, to counter the cold outdside, Scandinavians turn their homes into cosy wonderlands, pulling on their winter socks, sipping on some hot chocolate (or mulled wine for adults!) and hunkering down for winter in the best way possible.
By indulging in your favourite food, delivered!
Many of our top local food and drink businesses have kept our spirits high this year, allowing us to enjoy their delicious delicacies without ever having to leave the house! We’ve loved being able to get our favourite freshly ground coffee, or baked artisan goods straight to the door. You can even get award-winning tapas, or even a roast dinner! With so many talented foodies out there, there’s always something new and exciting to try. Check out our home deliveries and online services page to see if your favourite food is available.
By tuning into some virtual entertainment!
It’s a real shame that our entertainment venues will have to close again this month, especially given the fact that we hadn’t had the chance to enjoy The Regent Centre’s exciting new restoration! (scheduled to reopen on 5th December now) Despite this setback our theatres have several online shows lined up to keep us entertained, and you find a complete selection of what’s on in the virtual event listing on our at home pages. Many of our entertainment venues also have shows lined up for Christmas, so keep an eye on What’s on in December and book your tickets ASAP, they’re bound to sell out fast!
Other ways you can support local businesses
In this tough month to an even crazier year our local businesses will need all the support we can give them. There are loads of easy yet impactful ways you can support local businesses for example something as quick as leaving a 5-star review on Google, TripAdvisor or Facebook can have a hugely positive effect on a business. Many places are also accepting tips donated online for those extra generous and of course with Christmas coming up why not look at what types of gift cards, vouchers or future experiences you can book with your favourite local business. Head to our shopping pages to find out more.
