Christchurch has a thriving community with an eventful calendar that both serves its residents and attracts many visitors.
The weekly market takes place every Monday on the Highstreet and Saxon Square which is closed to traffic. Many of the businesses are open on the Highstreet to accommodate shoppers and the market itself sells all sorts of items varying from artisan foods, fresh fruit and veg to household products, jewellery, clothes and more.
Christchurch’s eventful calendar has many festivals throughout the year. The Christchurch Food Festival is one of the busiest weekends of the year and every May bank holiday the Highstreet and Quay are transformed into foodie heaven. At this hugely popular event you can expect to see people out and about throughout the quay and town all weekend dipping in and out of tents and market stalls trying delicacies from independent sellers and local businesses who set up with specialist menus for the event.
Throughout the year Christchurch Quay or ‘The Quomps’ is host to several other festivals including; Stompin’ on the Quomps and the Christchurch Music Festival. These free music festivals are becoming more and more popular with the ever-growing music scene in Christchurch. Stompin’ on the Quomps contains an eclectic mix of Jazz Fusion and Latin Jazz through to Blues and Big Band. The Christchurch Music Festival is a more traditional music festival with rock and pop bands. Both events feature bar and food stalls and are suitable for all ages.
The Bournemouth Rugby 7’s which takes place out near Hurn Airport is another big summer event for Christchurch where thousands of people attend. The event has become more than just a sporting competition over the years and often attracts worldwide music acts. Entertainment includes but is never limited to; a multitude of sports tournaments, glamping and camping, festival like music arenas, DJ sets and more.
A little further out in Mudeford you can attend The Mudeford Seafood Festival, a community led event set against the picturesque backdrop of Mudeford Quay. The festival showcases local producers, suppliers, artisans and chefs and has live food demonstrations alongside fun for kids as well as the delicious locally caught seafood.
So whether it’s sport, music, food or a bit of all round fun in the sun, Christchurch is full of great entertainment throughout the calendar year.
