When autumn leaves start to fall in Christchurch and warm sun-kissed colours descend on the destination, this is the perfect time to get away and enjoy the change of the seasons. Wrap up with an extra layer and enjoy long afternoon walks soaking up the last of the sun as the leaves turn a beautiful red and gold. Cosy up and enjoy quintessential autumn activities, from pumpkin picking to leafy autumn drives, not to mention the expansive programme of events and of course getting ready for Halloween! With so much to do this time of the year it’s not hard to see how truly magical Christchurch is in autumn.
There are so many things to do in autumn whether you’re with friends, family, young children, on a romantic getaway or travelling solo you won’t be short of options in Christchurch.

Alternatively, step it up a gear with a more challenging hike. Just outside of Christchurch you will find many stunning rural areas to enjoy the great outdoors. North of Christchurch you can explore the country villages of Burton and Sopley, and to the east you are on the edges of the The New Forest which really comes alive this time of year.

When the leaves turn to their warm autumnal colours there are many spots around town to enjoy the scenery.
In the centre of town either side of the river stour, Christchurch Quay is full of great spots to stop and enjoy the surroundings. From the picnic perfect lawns and a beautiful riverside setting of the Quay to the ancient Priory and Castle Ruins this route is well worth a wander in the autumn.
The Beach in autumn may seem an odd pick but the gentle sound of crashing waves while your wrapped up can be incredibly serene. Grab a coffee or hot choc and go for a walk on the long stretch of golden sands, you may even see some brave surfers and other water sports fanatics. Alternatively, from up on the clifftops in Highcliffe and Steamer Point you can get amazing views of the beach while soaking up that calming autumn seaside feeling.
Just away from the beaches Steamer Point Nature Reserve offers great sheltered walks with beautiful colours and wildlife, it won’t be hard to soak up the autumnal feeling as you walk in the shade of tall trees wandering through this glorious natural environment. Stanpit Marsh is also a fantastic place to walk this time of year where you can see ponies and impressive vistas out to sea and over Christchurch Harbour.
