Getting Around the Beach

Exploring the seafront and what it has to offer couldn’t be easier!

Land Train
Jump aboard one of our famous land trains, sit back and enjoy the seafront scene as we sweep you along the Promenade.  You can travel from Bournemouth Pier to Boscombe Pier and onto Boscombe High Street via Boscombe Gardens or from Bournemouth Pier to Alum Chine and along our new route from Boscombe Pier to Bournemouth Pier via the East Overcliff.

Trains depart daily between 10am – 5pm from April until 1st November, when it will change to a weekend only service. Land train service is subject to weather conditions.

Cliff Lifts
Cameras at the ready! For incredible views travel up and down the cliffs in our historic cliff lifts. The West Cliff lift provides an ideal link to the beach from the Bournemouth International Centre and hotels on the cliff top. West Cliff lift

Further down the coast, Fisherman’s Walk cliff lift provides an ideal link to the café’s and sunken garden on the cliff top. Fisherman’s Walk cliff lift

The lifts operate daily, from 10am – 5pm until 1st November when they will close for winter. The service is weather dependant. Under 5s and permanent wheelchair users plus one carer travel for free.

Cycling
From scenic flats to strenuous hill rides, Bournemouth is a magnet for cyclists of all ages and abilities. Bournemouth’s stunning gardens and promenade offer flat and safe cycle routes for those who prefer a gentle yet scenic bike ride. Along Bournemouth’s promenade (Cycling along the promenade is not permitted in July and August between 10am and 6pm) and roads you can cycle to Hengistbury Head Nature Reserve in the east or Sandbanks in the west.

There are several cycle-hire options available if you choose to leave yours bikes at home, and some companies can even deliver direct to your accommodation. Bournemouth also has a number of cycle-friendly accommodation providers who can assist with the hiring and storing your bikes, as well as offering early breakfasts and packed lunches to help you on your way.

Walking
Enjoy wandering through the town’s award-winning Grade II listed gardens. Starting from the seafront, follow the level pathway which takes you through the Lower Gardens. Take time out with the beautiful Bournemouth Gardens Tree Trail Walk. The trail takes approximately two hours and highlights some of the fascinating tree species in Bournemouth’s stunning Lower and Central Gardens.
